“The Shining”

When my partner said the hotel was on an industrial estate it didn’t bother me, lots of cheap hotels are out of town, but when we started to drive towards what can only be described as an industrial wasteland I did start to worry. Normally people drive away from great spewing chimneys, not towards them! The hotel is right next to a heavy industrial site, metal smelting I think. It was dark and deserted when we arrived and the 24 hour manned reception was in fact a locked door with a note telling you of a phone number to ring, so not a great welcome. Just as we were starting to panic a man arrived and let us in. The whole atmosphere of the place is like something out of The Shining, with no-one around, very dim lighting everywhere, and very dated, dingy furnishings. We were glad we had only booked one night here, the whole place gave us the creeps. The only other people we saw here were 3 men who must have been workers connected to the industrial plant. Very strange location for a hotel, also the lock was difficult on the main door to get in and out, we wouldn’t rush to stay here again, although we did get a good nights sleep because it was very quiet. This hotel is more for plant workers or business people than tourists and holiday makers.
