“Amazing Breakfast”

stopped here by chance as recommended by a guy at a local firm, had an amazing breakfast here, excellent service, it was not mega busy even mid saturday morning , the decor is quirky and fun loads of parking at the re of the pub, super clean toilets which is always a bonus

Went for a family meal service was non existent. Was not shown to table and was told it was the large table outside . Had to ask for menus and water for the table. ordered olives and bread to start with . Olives appeared but no bread . Again had to ask and then had to ask for our mains . . Didn’... Più

Went for a family meal service was non existent. Was not shown to table and was told it was the large table outside . Had to ask for menus and water for the table. ordered olives and bread to start with . Olives appeared but no bread . Again had to ask and then had to ask for our mains . . Didn’t clear away the starter plates . No one asked if we we wanted extra drinks and if the meal was ok . Food on the other hand was fantastic, everyone enjoyed what they had chosen. Just unfortunate that the service let them down on what appeared to be a fairly quiet day .

Slow service but friendly and helpful staff. Previous visit I gave 5 stars but I cannot stretch that far on this occasion. The restaurant is popular and busy. I will think twice about a revisit

Oh dear, I hate to point out the negatives because there's lots to like, but being right on an ever so busy road that serves the A34 is a real consideration. It's noisy. Extremely noisy. The hotel is beautifully decorated and has a large car park and lovely outdoor seating area (which also suffers from the road noise, sadly) The rooms are lovely. Very clean with modern, quirky decor. Toiletries smell gorgeous. A pillow spray and foam earplugs are provided. Nice touch. However, bedroom are VERY noisy. Right on the road. The windows open up to road noise and the rooms are so hot. No air con. A fan is supplied but makes little difference. Be prepared for a very warm and stuffy night. Traffic noise died down slightly just after midnight. We were awakened a motorbike roaring by at 5am and from then on traffic became heavy and noise became very loud. For such a lovely establishment the breakfast tray consisting of two tea bags was a disappointment. We had to ask for milk at reception. It was fresh which was nice but there was no fridge to keep it in overnight...but really, not a worry as sadly, there were no more tea bags, or sugar cubes. I'm sure we could have asked for more but we really shouldn't have to. So, no early morning cuppa in our room for two tea drinkers. Could have been more generous in such a smart room. There is a coffee machine. Food was okay but portions were meagre. Dinner the night before : My fish (battered cod) was really hard and dry - very over cooked. My partner had two tiny, tiny scallops for his starter. Breakfast continental area is very small and by the time we arrived,at about 8.45am, there was one piece of melon left and a dried out piece of pineapple. Only two jars of cereal - corn flakes and cocoa pops? Did we miss something? I had the two odd grapes garnishing the cheeseboard for my fruit. Little pots of yogurt were in a tray but no ice. I had the last one, which was vaguely warm. About two inches or orange juice was left in the jug. It was warm, but we had a very small glass each - the remainder of the jug. We should have been spoiled for choice, but had the dregs, even though the room wasn't full or busy. It should be replenished frequently - the whole continental section should - but no one attended to it. We could have stood there and demanded more, but didn't want to - It was a bit embarrassing. It shouldn't have been a problem. We were gasping for a cup of tea so sat down, knowing we could order a cooked items. They were cooked to order. I got a slice of sliced wholemeal bread instead of sourdough for my avocado and eggs. The avocado topping wasn't very generous and my poached egg was 'snotty' - slimy, undercooked white, which I always find off-putting. Partner's full English was fine, if minimal. He asked for extra mushrooms instead of beans and got one very small mushroom to accompany the one mushroom that was standard. Food isn't cheap so better breakfasts could be had elsewhere. I hate being critical but someone needs to oversee the dining area and what is going out of the kitchen and maybe adjust portion control, given it's an upmarket dining room. Having said that. service was good and efficient and all the staff were LOVELY, attentive and friendly. Full marks especially to the warm welcome at reception from the young manager. Also lovely were his assistant who took our bags, the cheery barman and the waiting staff - all doing a great job. It would be a gem if you could pick it up and put it in a quiet location. Triple glazing and air con might be planned maybe to solve the noise/warm room problems? I appreciate there is nothing they can do about road noise.
