Check in was easy and the staff (Lance) were happy to accommodate my request of being on the top floor away from the noise on the streets. I was surprised to find that they have a great gym on the 5th floor with weights, cardio machines, a yoga mat and a bench. I was so grateful for this. The rooms were cleaned every day really well. Got fresh towels daily. I stayed 7 nights and my linen was changed as I was in the room when house keeping changed it. The house keeping staff are super friendly and so helpful. The restaurant at Penta Hotel is lovely. They have a superb lunch deal for 49 RMB you get a semi buffet, a main meal and a drink. I sadly only discovered this on my second last day but the fruit, salad, pasta main and drink I had was excellent and served with a smile. There was HBO on the TV for the night you just want to curl up and watch a movie. This hotel is really good value for money. They have umbrellas you can pay a deposit for and use. They have bicycles you can use free of charge, they have a pool table, darts and games. I felt at home here and will certainly stay here again when travelling to Shanghai. PS - I had to request a late check out due to a flight delay and they assisted me again without asking for extra payments or anything. Really amazing stay!

Hotels for me are about the quality of bed and bathroom, the rest is a bonus, can I sleep well and is the bathroom clean. Yes to both here, I was only in the hotel for 5hrs as a day room in transit, but it was great. Staff were friendly, level of English spoken was great, no issues on check in or out. Beds are large and comfy, lovely feather pillows, bathroom is compact but does the job!

Last week Shanghai had a Typhoon that effected the area and I checked out of my hotel thinking my flight was a go only to find out the airport was closed, I went back to try and secure a room only to find out my rates went from 675 to 1600, I called my back up plan and that was the Penta Hotel which I have used many of times , I spoke to Lance who has been my contact for making reservations at the Penta and he managed to take of matters in Seconds on a day finding a hotel was a challange and what made me more thankful was the hotel did not increase its rates like other hotels installed during the airport closure. That is what service is about , taking care of your loyal clients rather than taking advantage. Good hotel with great staff.....

Overall we enjoyed our stay. The Pentahotel staff are very nice, breakfast is really good with lots of options. The Wi-fi is okay but you often have to keep re-registering which is annoying. There is a pool table and PlayStation in the lobby and a decent bar. Our rooms were a mixed bag. Large bed, good air con, and nice toiletries but small and rather disappointing bathrooms that need updating. In fact the rooms had the feel of once being a holiday inn or something - distinctly mid range and a bit 80s but then re-badged without a proper remodel. It had one of those very small baths that are utterly useless. But overall the place is good value for money and a great location - a very short walk to the metro (exit 5) and a very good shopping centre (cloud 9) five mins walk that has some great restaurants on its higher floors. It’s better sister hotel next door has a good cocktail bar and a pool on the roof. Not sure if Penta guests can use it.
