The owners have done a wonderful job updating this property to the Doubletree standards. Overall, the rooms have a modern look and feel, and it looks as if they spent tons of money updating the bathrooms. Now, you can often tell the actual age of an hotel through small details, like how shaky the elevators are... or whether they are in working order... but in the case of this refurb and rebrand, those oversights are fairly minor in the grand scheme of things What I liked: Friendly front desk staff, wonderful restaurant for breakfast (Sparo) with a la carte breakfasts benefit for Diamond members. It is a great location to access Signal Hill and is a quick 12 minutes to/from the airport... one of the easiest downtown hotel to access, along with the Sheraton next door. The rooms have received a major update as part of the rebrand. The furniture and overall look is quite modern, and as shared above, the bathroom and shower is bright and a highlight of the room. Technology (Hilton Digital Key) worked flawlessly. Room temperature control was adequate throughout the stay. Wifi was reliable. Room was prepared as requested, and the bed and pillows were quite comfortable - had two good nights of sleep! Outside or inside noise was not an issue. Decent view from the room assigned What to look for/could be improved With all of the furniture in the room, the room actually felt quite small and the layout is definitely a tad untraditional. The work table has one small chair, but also some sort of a couch on the other side. It didn't feel like there was a ton of floor space and storage space in the room. The room also use older style AC (individual room unit) which is typical of lower end hotels, rather than a central air system. At was a little bit on the noisy side, but had worse. The good thing is that the curvature of the bed actually prevent the cold or warm air from the AC unit to be blasted over you, as the bed is close to the unit. Other information: Most hotels in Downtown St.John's are at either end of the downtown area, with few actually in the middle. The other Hilton property in the area, a Hilton Garden Inn, is on the other side. It is relatively quick to go through one end of downtown to the other, so this should not be a major factor in deciding whether to stay at one property or the other.

This is a comfortable hotel in a great location. We booked a suite and it was perfect for our week-long stay. We also had a lovely dinner at the Little Sparo restaurant with superb service. Overall, I would recommend this place. The view is lovely and although there was some noise from the working harbor, it didn't go beyond 10pm. A couple of areas where there is room for improvement: 1. The bathroom sink did not have a plug so I was very nervous about dropping something in the sink and not being able to retrieve it (toothpaste tube cap for instance). 2. There was inadequate lighting in the sitting area and especially over the bar. I had to use the flashlight from my cellphone to be able to properly see the counter. 3. Considering that the suite already had a wet bar with glasses and an ice bucket, it was not necessary to provide additional wine glasses and a second ice bucket in the bedroom and use up valuable counter space. The trays were screwed to the table and not movable. The only space available was on top of the nightstands.

This is actually the second time I’m staying here. My first visit, back in the summer of 2019, this hotel was undergoing a major renovation/rebranding. Now with all of the work completed, I was eager to return. Our harbor view room (two queen beds) was tastefully decorated and the view was as great as I remember. It is fascinating to watch all of the activity taking place on the offshore supply vessels and commercial fishing boats. I did find the room to be a bit small (on my last visit I had a King room which seemed much larger). I was disappointed that there was only one chair in this room as one person had to sit in the bed. Also, on my first visit I had a bathroom with a walk in shower. This room, however, had a shower-tub combo which unfortunately leaked the entire time we were here 5 days/4 nights). The beds were comfortable and the pillows excellent. Housekeeping did a great job throughout our stay. The lobby area is very bright and modern with great views overlooking the harbor. One night we enjoyed drinks at the sophisticated bar and were attended to by the very welcoming bartenders. Front desk staff were exceptionally friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the area. We were truly treated like valued guests.

The hotel is great for parking but expensive. $ 15 per night is a bit steep for parking at a hotel. The rooms are very clean and new but very small with only one chair. The app doesn’t work and when I phoned to tell them, I was asked to fill in a review that I never received. Some staff are extremely helpful and friendly, some are definitely not so, particularly one of the bartenders. Great view, good restaurant, super expensive food. Reasonable rate for the room though. I HATE that to reserve, there is a nonsensical way to get rewards when you book online. You get a good rate, but you can’t cancel your reservation if something comes up. What kind of hotel has a no cancellation policy. This is my last time going to this hotel, and I’m in St. John’s often.
